You Shall Have No Other Gods Before Me

"You shall have no other gods before Me."
By John S.

While I was traveling by train to come to this storytelling training, a family of three people were seated near me. When the train passed over a big river, the people sitting near me worshipped the river [made hand signs]. So I asked them, "What does this mean, worshipping this river. If you worship this river, what will you get?" They did not reply.

But I took this as an opportunity and started telling them the story about Moses, when he and the rest of the Israelites passed over the Red Sea. I told them where it is written, "You should not worship anyone except Me." They asked, "How is this possible?"

So I told them the entire story of Genesis, and again told them the story of Exodus, and where it is written, "You shall not worship any other gods except Me." (Exo. 20:3-5).

A lady in that family named Shushilima said, "This is very wonderful. We have never heard any stories like this before."

While I was telling them all these stories as we were traveling, I could see that God was really touching Shushilima's heart. So I shared with her some stories about Jesus. By this time we were arriving to our station, so I finished my story by telling her, "If you accept Jesus Christ, then you will have peace here on this earth. And you will have peace there in heaven also." Then we got down from the train.
