Prashant has been going to the village of Pipri to teach the stories to a man named Champala who is a well-digger. Champala has been a Christian for two years. He can't read, so he learned the Bible stories by listening to Prashant tell them.
One day while Champala was laying brick on an open well that he was digging, he slipped and fell! As he was falling thirty feet to the bottom, the Bible story flashed into his mind about how Joseph's brothers threw Joseph into a well (Genesis 37). Instantly Champala prayed, "Lord, just like you protected Joseph, you can protect me!" Miraculously when he hit the bottom of the well, he was not killed; in fact, he was not injured at all. "Be instant in season and out." Sometimes opportunities are fleeting. Split second decisions can make the difference between life and death. Military writer Harold Coyle describes the importance of this in modern warfare:
"One of the most difficult aspects with digitizing the battlefield at the individual combat soldier level has been the presentation of information in a manner that is immediately recognizable and useful. For example, humans are visually oriented. We respond to things we see based upon their shape, color, posture and activity. A soldier on the battlefield does not have time to read a message being beamed across his field of vision stating "Enemy, three o'clock." The cognitive process required to translate that message or symbols into a coherent thought upon which he can then base his response takes time, time which an infantryman cannot afford. For a system to be worthwhile it has to enhance a soldier's awareness and reduce his response time to threats, not impede it. Therefore all our efforts have been geared to delivering information and images to the soldier in a form that is natural to him and elicits a response that is more instinctive."
Having a repertoire of Bible stories that are instantly accessible no matter the time of day or night, no matter the gravity of the situation, equips believers to respond effectively to opportunities, challenges and dangers.
