This is from an online friend who trains Christian workers overseas in a rigorous program of Bible Story Telling. His students learn 125 Bible Stories by heart to use in evangelism, church planting and discipleship. To receive these weekly updates, email

One of the things I've noticed about the storytellers Paul trains is their child like faith in Jesus Christ as you'll see in this story. But when people have nothing but Jesus Christ and His Word, Jesus Christ and His Word prove to be all they need as this story reminds us.
Abraham's Story Brings Idol-maker to Christ
By Prashant
After learning the stories I went back to my ministry place. There was a man nearby who was making idols out of big, huge stones. His name is Raju. One day while he was making so many idols, I told him the story of Abraham's father who had worshipped idols.
Before that I had been afraid, wondering how could I go to this man and tell him Bible stories? But the Lord was telling me to go tell him stories. Before telling the story, I asked him,"You people are making these idols and getting so much money. After the people worship these idols, what will happen to them?"
He replied, "I don't know what will happen to them. This is just a job. I have to do this work to earn money to support my family."
So I explained a little bit about the family of Abraham, how Abraham's father was making and worshipping idols. But then God chose him and called him out as His people to worship the living God. I said, "In this same way, God may be wanting you to worship Him."
After telling him all these things, God touched his life or mind. Because he believed. I told him, "You are making idols to get money to maintain your family. But if you believe in God, you will not get only money, but you will get the blessing of God also."
So now he is fully believing in Christ. He is trying to come totally to Christ, but he cannot leave that job of making idols. If he could just get a different way to get money, then he would leave idol-making and follow Jesus Christ fully. So we are praying for him and his family.
UPDATE February 2007: Now Raju has moved with his family to find different work in another city. He is selling chairs and tables and believing in God.
